Wayne Horkan has avoided a jail term after a cache of indecent animal sex videos were found on his computer

A businessman who filmed his ex-girlfriend having sex with a dog has avoided jail.

Wayne Horkan, of Birmingham, had a catalogue of nearly 1,500 images and more than 200 videos of sexual acts involving animals, two of which featured one of his ex girlfriends.

Prosecutor Timothy Harrington said: ‘He admitted he got sexual gratification from these films and had watched them on a number of occasions.’

Horkan, who runs his own technology consultancy firm, admitted possessing extreme pornographic images but avoided a jail term, instead getting a £4,000 fine.

According to his LinkedIn page, he has previously worked with Manchester United, Harrods and the Home Office, helping them with technology strategy.

The court heard he had used particular search terms to look for this kind of pornography and downloaded the images between April 2014 and 2015.

Prosecutor Mr Harrington said: ‘Two of the videos, it was readily apparent, involved a woman with whom the defendant had been in a relationship.’

Birmingham Crown Court heard Horkan lost his job over the videos, which he told the court he has since stopped watching

Judge Melbourne Inman QC said the sentence was imposed as there had been a delay between the committing of the offences and the court case.

He added: ‘Between 2014 and 2015 you downloaded imagery which it is not necessary to detail again, which are abhorrent.

‘Two of them involved a lady whom you were living with which is an aggravating feature. There is no suggestion at all this was anything other than consensual adult behaviour.’

The judge said Horkan had lost ‘important’ employment as a result of the offence but had since set up a company with a partner.

Lynette McClement, defending, said the defendant’s initial relationship with the woman had been a financial one although that had changed.

Ms McClement said: ‘In the course of that relationship his interest in extreme pornography was limited to that timescale. This was a shared interest.’

Horkan, 48, was also ordered to pay £1,200 costs at Birmingham Crown Court.
