Ted Bundy’s ex-girlfriend recalls horrifying encounters with serial killer in new documentary

An ex-girlfriend of Ted Bundy has revealed how the serial killer would laugh as he tried to drown her in a new documentary.

The woman, who only gave her name as Sandy, dated Bundy while as a college student in the 60s and has never talked about her experience before.

She was interviewed by Dr Al Carlisle, who interviewed numerous criminals like Bundy as well as Arthur Gary Bishop and Manny Cortez.

Dr Carlisle would then track down those who had been targeted and affected by Bundy, to try to discover where his violent tendencies originated.

Sandy recounted on the Oxygen documentary, Violent Minds: Killers on Tape, how her serial killer boyfriend dunked her under the water on a picnic date by the river.

She claimed he held her there for nearly a minute, adding: ‘That’s when he was dunking me in the water.

‘It’s playful up until the point someone is trying to get away to get air, he just laughed.’

Sandy also alleged Bundy liked choking her during sex, which ‘frightened’ her.

Her recollection was one of the ‘first indications’ to Dr Carlisle that he was ‘getting violent’.

He said: ‘He can’t control himself when he’s having sex. He’s choking and so, yeah, I’m seeing violence developing.

‘It was clear that Ted was not the normal college student he wanted others to see him as.

‘He had been aggressive in putting his arm over his sexual partner’s throat and choking her during sex. [It] bordered on homicide.’

The tapes were only discovered after Dr Carlisle’s death in 2018, and are now going to be made public or the first time on April 2.

His assistant Carrie Anne Drazewski-Keller talks on the documentary about ‘shocking’ discoveries they made.

She told Fox News Digital: T’he depth of Bundy’s depravity was not fully expressed to the public at the time of his killings.

‘The reality is he was horrible. He was a necrophiliac. He was a Jekyll and Hyde who appeared as a super great guy but transformed into this terrible monster who did terrible things to you after you were dead.

‘Dr. Carlisle wanted to understand what would drive someone to take such a dark path. He truly believed everyone was good.’

He spent about 20 hours with Bundy on the psychological assessment, believing he was much more dangerous.

Drazewski-Keller added: ‘It’s very interesting. You have [Bundy’s] mother saying, ‘Oh, he’s my precious baby boy,’ and then you have the girlfriend saying, ‘He held my head underwater for too long.’

‘And then you have a landlady, who was always suspicious of him, going, ‘He stole my car one night.’

‘Doc felt that each killer created themselves. Fantasy plays a huge role in it.

‘And sometimes that fantasy life is more than anything. And these people go down a path to a point where you don’t even recognize them anymore.’

After two murder trials, Bundy would confess on death row in 1989 to taking the lives of at least 30 women across the country from Washington to Florida.

Bundy never truly revealed where his victims were buried which caused more heartache for families. Experts believe he could have killed as many as 100 people.
