17-year-old teen is fatally shot while out riding his bike along the sidewalk of a west Chicago neighborhood

A teenager was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in Chicago while riding a bike in the west side of the city. 

The 17-year-old boy was riding on a sidewalk in Humboldt Park about 5pm.

A red Hyundai SUV approached the teen when two people got out as one of them fire shots at him according to Chicago police.

The teen was hit numerous times times in the head and body, cops said.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not yet released details on the boy’s death according to the Chicago Sun Times.

Police did not immediately have a motive for the shooting but stated that the victim did not have a criminal background.

Police had originally reported that the boy was riding an electric scooter when gunfire erupted.

No arrests have been reported. An investigation is ongoing.
