A 16-year-old boy is in a critical condition with burns to his face, arms and torso after an explosion from a backyard fire pit near Port Stephens.
Another four people were left injured and taken to hospital after the explosion at a home on Sandy Point Road in Corlette on Sunday.
NSW Ambulance paramedics and emergency services responded to reports of burn injuries at the home just after 5pm.

A man and a woman, both in their 40s, were flown by rescue helicopter to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital for burns to their legs and torso.
The are in a serious but stable condition.
Two others, a man and woman also in their 40s, were treated at the scene for burns to their face and torso.
They were taken to Newcastle’s John Hunter Hospital and are in a stable condition.

Officers from Port Stephens / Hunter Police District attended and established a crime scene.
Initial investigations suggest an explosion occurred after a flammable liquid was poured onto the fire pit on a patio.
Police are investigating.
