Girl, 14, is killed crossing the road in western Sydney in a tragic accident just before Christmas

A teenage girl has tragically been killed after she was hit by a car while crossing a busy highway in western Sydney.

Emergency crews rushed to the Great Western Highway at Colyton on Monday afternoon following reports a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle.

Police were told a white Nissan Pulsar, driven by a 43-year-old woman, struck the girl near Bennett Street.

Paramedics treated a girl, 14, at the scene for head injuries.

She was rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead but died en route.

All east bound lanes are closed on the Great Western Highway with traffic diverted down Sydney Street.

The Nissan driver was taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has been established and inquiries continue into the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
