A 16-year-old girl has died in a horror school holiday car crash.

The teenager was in a car with seven of her family members travelling up the New South Wales Coast on the Pacific Highway near Port Macquarie on Thursday morning when a van pulled out in front of their vehicle.

NSW Police believe the car then swerved to avoid the van shortly after 11am, and rolled several times.

The girl was thrown from the car and died at the scene.

The woman driving the car suffered head injuries and was rushed to John Hunter Hospital, while remaining family members were taken to both John Hunter and Port Macquarie Hospitals for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the van was taken to Port Macquarie Base Hospital for tests.

NSW Police are investigating the crash, but a police spokesman was unable to tell Daily Mail Australia the names of anyone involved. 

The horrific accident is the second death on the Pacific Highway since the school holidays began.

A woman died in a four-car crash near Telegraph Point on Tuesday.
