Teenage girl punches a man in the face after he grabs her wrist as she walks to school

A teenager has fought off her attacker after he grabbed as she walked to school. 

Police are hunting for a man who approached the 16-year-old girl on Tuesday morning in Coffs Harbour, in NSW.

She was en route to school when she was stopped at a reserve between MacKays Road and Joyce Street.

The man grabbed her wrist before she punched him in the face and ran away, police said. 

Officers are calling on the community for any information about the man.

He is described as  170cm-175cm tall, of a slim build, and with brown hair.

At the time of the attack, he was wearing a dark shirt and believed to be in his 20s.

Anyone with information or is asked to contact Crime Stoppers or head to their local police station.

It was reported to school staff before officers from Coffs/Clarence Police District were notified.
