Teenager carrying a RIFLE sparks a primary school lockdown with terrified young students holed up inside

  • School in NSW sent into lockdown on Tuesday after armed teen was seen nearby 
  • Police officers  called at 1.30pm and safely secured Beckom Public School 
  • A 16-year-old male was arrested and is assisting police with their investigation  

A teenager carrying a gun has sparked a lockdown at a New South Wales primary school on Tuesday afternoon. 

Students and teachers were sheltering inside Beckom Public School in the NSW Riverina region as police secured the area following a call at about 1.30pm. 

A young male was seen walking around the perimeter of the school grounds carrying a rifle, according to the Daily Telegraph. 

The Beckom Public School in the NSW Riverina region (pictured) was sent into lockdown on Tuesday afternoon following the sighting of a male with a gun pacing around the school 

Police officers arrested the 16-year-old male upon arriving at the school, which teaches students from kindergarten to grade six. 

The gun was seized and the arrested male is assisting police with their investigation into the incident.
