TELL TRINNY: Introduce some shimmer into your wardrobe this December
I believe so strongly that what we wear has the power to make us feel better – and to me there’s no better way than to don sequins and shimmer.

The good news is that the trend is now seasonless – there are as many spangled pieces in summer as in winter, which fills me with tremendous joy. Sequins make me feel great – if I’m tired, they’ll reflect the light back on to my face making me look better.
If you’ve never entertained the idea before, December is the month to experiment. Remember, a sequin is for life, not just for Christmas, and I’d really like you to feel as though you can wear them any time, anywhere. Make 2020 the year you shine.
Hint of a glint

If it’s your first foray into sequins, remember that you can really dress them down. I often layer a slightly see-through sequin mesh top over a white shirt (like this one from Zara) or just have a soupçon showing under a navy blazer. It’s like wearing a bigger, bolder and better necklace. This headband is divine, too.
Mix and flash
Try a sequin separate. For instance, consider a white T-shirt, some jogging bottoms and a white trainer with a sequin jacket. I adore this Massimo Dutti blazer – it has structure, so you have the comfort of a classic shape, but with a very small paillette. Or this River Island cape would look good dressed up. You might think adorned trousers are just for Mick Jagger, but this Serena Bute pair is a masterclass in how to do sequins.
Full-on sparkle

For those of you thinking about taking a risk, I say, go the whole enchilada and consider sequins from top to toe. Asos sells brilliant sparkly suits every year and this is my pick for this Christmas – it’s the best version of winter white. You might think sequins will bulk you out, but I find that, unlike tight trousers, they cover any wayward flesh because of the way they move. People don’t notice your figure in sequins – they notice you sparkling as you enter the room and they want to talk to you.
