Telstra users have been left in the dark in some parts of the country after the telecommunications company suffered an outage.

Customers across Victoria have been unable to make or receive calls since the blackout on Friday afternoon.

Telstra took to Twitter to say it was working quickly to solve the problem.

‘We’re aware that some people are having intermittent issues with making calls on their mobile and we’re looking into it.

‘Data and messaging are OK. We’ll give you an update when we know more.’ 

Customers should still be able to send text messages or e-mails, according to Telstra.

FaceTime is also still able to be used. 

Outraged customers have aired their frustration on social media.

‘I’ve had about ten failed calls this afternoon – is there a mobile outage?’ one person tweeted.

Another one posted: ‘HELP. Or at least order our Friday night pizza. Happy for you to cover the charge. Can’t make outgoing calls… what’s the problem?’ 

Other users have complained of their 4G service dropping out.
