Tense standoff between a knife-wielding man on the roof of a tunnel and armed police brings peak-hour traffic to a halt

A knife-wielding man standing on the roof of one of Brisbane’s busiest tunnels has  brought peak-hour traffic to a halt. 

The man, involved in the tense stand off with police, disrupted traffic in both directions at the Clem Jones Tunnel at Shafston Avenue just before 7am on Thursday.

Officers were called to the scene after the man climbed onto a structure at the northbound entrance.

The entrance and exit to the tunnel at Shafston Avenue has since been closed and negotiators are talking to the man.

Traffic is being redirected. 

A spokesman from Queensland Police told Daily Mail Australia officers are still in negotiations with the man. Nobody has been arrested at this stage. 

Queensland Traffic has urged drivers to take alternative routes.
