Teri Garr, 75, suffers medical emergency requiring hospitalization in Los Angeles

Teri Garr has been hospitalized in Los Angeles after suffering an unknown medical emergency.

The 75-year-old actress was rushed from her San Fernando Valley home around 10:30 am Monday to a local medical center, according to an article by TMZ.

Garr announced in 2002 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis after dealing with symptoms for years.

She previously has stated that she first started noticing symptoms around 1982 while in New York filming Tootsie.

Garr played actress Sandy Lester, the neurotic girlfriend of Dustin Hoffman, 82, in the 1982 comedy Tootsie directed by the late Sydney Pollack.

Garr was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the comedy that was nominated for 10 Academy Awards.

She also was nominated at the BAFTA Awards for her role in Tootsie.

Garr in December 2006 suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm that left her in a coma.

She regained her speech and motor skills after therapy and talked about her recovery during a June 2008 visit to the Late Show With David Letterman.

Letterman, 72, asked her if she had learned anything by overcoming the brain aneurysm while coping with MS.

‘Yes. A lot of things, I guess, I’ve learned so much. I appreciate life every minute and I count my blessings. In fact, turns out I have so many blessings that I have a woman come in twice a week and counts them for me,’ Garr joked.

Garr described her ‘big break’ as a role in a 1968 episode of Star Trek titled Assignment: Earth.

She scored her breakthrough film role playing Inga in the 1974 comedy horror film Young Frankenstein, widely considered one of the greatest comedy films of all time.

Garr also had a high-profile rile in the Steven Spielberg 1977 sci-fi classic Close Encounters Of The Third Kind.

She also appeared in three episodes of the sitcom Friends as Phoebe Abbott.

Garr has a 26-year-old daughter Molly O’Neil who she adopted with ex-husband John O’Neil.
