Passengers on board an jet screamed in terror as a bat flew back and forth through the cabin during a flight.
Shortly after take-off the creature was spotted circling around the Spirit Airlines plane as it headed to Newark, New Jersey, at night.
In a video filmed by a terrified passenger, the animal can be seen flying along the middle of the cabin while a child screamed in shock.
Peter Scattini who was on board the flight tweeted a video of the bat alongside a caption joking about the chaos it caused as passengers and cabin crew ran for cover.
The bat was captured in a video clip flying around the Spirit Airlines cabin during a night flight to Newark, New Jersey
He wrote: ‘Me, twice a year: ”I’ll never fly spirit again”. Me, this morning, after deciding I’d rather save 12 dollars.’
Scattini, who said his Spirit flight cost just $57, then added: ‘I also want to make clear that this bat appeared WHILE WE WERE 30 MINUTES INTO OUR FLIGHT.
‘Where it came from? No idea. Eventually someone trapped it between a book & a cup and then locked it in one of the restrooms for the remainder of the trip.’
When one social media user said, ‘I mean…the airline is named ”Spirit”,’ Scattini replied it was a bit ‘too on brand’.
Another added: ‘Could be worse. Could be snakes.’
Some passengers joked about the chaos and confusion the wild animal caused on the plane

In another video of the incident posted to Twitter, another passenger joked they were on a ‘Batplane’.
A panicked woman added as the creature flapped its wings and flew over the heads of passengers: ‘Hey Batman.’
The bat was reportedly caught by a passenger and shut in the plan’s bathroom for the rest of the journey.
A woman posted on Twitter: ‘Here’s a crazy flight experience. A bat was on the plane headed to Newark. It came out while the plane was in the air.
‘Luckily no one was hurt. One of the passengers caught it and put it in the bathroom.’
