Rail passengers jumped out of seats after being confronted with a huntsman spider on their morning commute.

The unwanted guest was filmed crawling over a seat of a Sydney train earlier this month.

The footage, uploaded on Reddit, sent users into a frenzy with one saying she would rather walk to work than sit in the same carriage as the spider.

‘Ok, now this a valid excuse for track works,’ one user wrote.

‘That’s a legit reason to use the emergency help point,’ another wrote.

One added: ‘Did you get the carriage number. Shame we have to burn it now.’

One commuter in the footage looks stunned after watching the spider make its way around the carriage.

‘Also I hope it gets fined for putting its feet on the seat,’ one wrote.

‘Hey pay up buddy nobody rides for free,’ another wrote.

One added: ‘Well, looks like I’m walking to work tomorrow.’

Huntsman spiders have a mild venom, which is not considered dangerous to humans.

While the species appear scary because of their size, they do not target or chase after people.
