This is the shocking moment a London Underground passenger punched a fellow passenger on a packed train last night.

Passengers screamed as the attacker launched himself at another man on the Northern line carriage between Kennington and Stockwell at about 10pm yesterday.

Witnesses said other passengers were ‘pretty afraid and anxious because the guy was really aggressive and threatening’ while travelling on the Tube in South London.

The attacker, who described as being ‘very tall and posh voiced’, was travelling with a woman in a red dress who is believed to have been his mother.

The incident allegedly began when the attacker pushed into another man while getting on board – and the other responded by saying: ‘Excuse me, but don’t push.’

A witness returning home from the theatre told MailOnline that the attacker ‘went mad’ and he was ‘right in the other guy’s face and using vile and abusive language’.

She added: ‘It calmed down for a bit but then the aggressor started threatening the guy again and everybody in the Tube trying to protect the guy being attacked.

‘I was so upset but I did something I’ve never done before and tried to film it because it was so violent and scary and I didn’t want him to get away with it.

‘The next minute the big guy turned round, started the verbal abuse again and then just launched a huge punch on the guy and started physically attacking him.’

She added that she fell over in the melee and lost her phone, although she later found it on the floor. The woman also suffered injuries to her arm and shin.

The attacker was eventually dragged off the train at Stockwell by the woman believed to be his mother, and the witness said ‘lots of girls were crying’.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: ‘Officers from British Transport Police are currently investigating an assault on board a Northern Line train travelling between Kennington and Stockwell.
