The Houston Texas are serious about protecting rookie quarterback CJ Stroud, and proved that on Wednesday by reaching an agreement on a $56million, three-year extension with offensive tackle Tytus Howard.
A first-round pick out of Alabama State in 2019, Howard started 54 games for Houston in his four years in the NFL.
He had one year remaining on his contract before reaching an agreement on this extension.
ESPN was the first to report the deal.

‘Tytus has been a good player for the last number of years,’ Texans GM Nick Caserio said Wednesday morning. ‘It was good working with his team and his representation.’
Howard ranked seventh among tackles last season by winning 93.1-percent of his pass-blocking assignments, according to ESPN.
Now the Texans have Howard and left tackle Laremy Tunsil under contract for the foreseeable future. Tunsi became the league’s highest-paid offensive lineman in March when he signed a three-year, $75 million deal.
Houston also added veteran right guard Shaq Mason on a three-year, $36 million deal in May.
