The $79 Ikea side table that experts say will be worth THOUSANDS of dollars in the future

An affordable $79 side table could be worth thousands of dollars in the future, according to interior design experts.

And while Ikea’s LÖVBACKEN (previously LÖVET) may look like any other side table, this three-legged wooden design was first released back in the 1950s and is now part of the Ikea ‘Re-imagined Classics’ collection.

According to Swedish auction site Barnebys, it ‘wouldn’t be surprising’ if the basic table sold for anything between $1755 and $3159 by 2030.

By 2040, it could be pulling in a cool $6265 – $7775.

‘Originally launched in 1953, Ikea’s first flat-pack product the LÖVBACKEN table is a wonderful little table with a fantastic heritage, created by one of Sweden’s most successful designers, Gillis Lundgren,’ the auction house’s co-founder Pontus Silfverstople wrote on the company’s blog.

‘Selling for thousands at some of Sweden’s leading auction houses, the LÖVBACKEN has become a collectible for the most discerning of furniture experts,’ he continued.

‘I wouldn’t be surprised if the development in its value would look like this in the future.’

The table is significant because it was the item that was said to give birth to the flatpack furniture revolution.

It has been released several times over the years, and also adorns some of the world’s top auction houses as bidders fight to win their piece of modern history.

‘The distinctive grain pattern in the poplar veneer gives each table a unique character,’ the Ikea website reads.

‘The veneered surface is durable, stain resistant and easy to keep clean.’

The LÖVBACKEN is not the only Ikea piece that has become a sought after collectable set to be worth thousand, either.

Ikea’s RÅANE armchair (previously JÄRPEN) is also being re-released in stores this autumn after the popularretailer noticed a ‘huge demand’ for the design on themarket.

‘In recent times, we’ve seen a selection of Ikea’s most iconic designs become sought-after collectibles in auction houses across the world, commanding prices up to ten times higher than their launch price,’ Jared Sager, head of collections at Ikea commented.
