The Amazing Race 2019: Tim and Rod WIN the show and the $250,000 prize

New South Wales newlyweds Tim Sattler and Rod Jones have been crowned the champions of The Amazing Race Australia 2019.

Tim, 29, and Rod, 28, got emotional as they finally reached the end of the mammoth round-the-world adventure, with Jasmin Onus and Jerome Cubillo coming a close second.

After dashing to host Beau Ryan following the final challenge, the duo were told they had won the $250,000 prize money – with Tom branding it ‘the greatest feeling in the world’.

Personal trainer Tim – who married Rod in March after being together for two years -gushed: ‘We wanted it so damn bad, and it’s finally happened.

‘This journey, this race, this insane, crazy adventure we’ve all been a part of… it’s just a full-blown roller-coaster, but it’s the most fun we’ve ever had in our lives.

‘We’ve learnt so much about each other and at the end of the day, we’re still together. After something like this, I think we can both pat ourselves on the back. I’m just so in love with him, my best mate, my soul mate.’

The genetically blessed couple reunited with their former competitors at the end of the 45,000 kilometer race, with the gang seen celebrating around them following their epic win.

The finalists had traveled across eight countries on three continents – Asia, Africa, and Oceania – to get to the finish line.

The runners-up appeared disappointed when they spotted Tim and Rod’s faces at the finish line, but an emotional Jerome said: ‘Even though we didn’t come up with the goods, I think we’re still pretty proud of how we went.’

After briefly being in the lead, third place finalists Viv and Joey Dinh appeared exhausted as they finally completed the race, with Joey sweetly saying: ‘I learned that Viv just needs to stop underestimating herself.’

‘She doubts herself a lot. She’s done so well, you know? She can do everything,’ he added, before tearing up.

It was a drama-filled finale episode, which forced the teams to complete adrenaline-pumping activities such as throwing themselves out of a plane, kayaking in crocodile-filled waters and training horses to get to the end.

Viv and Joey were in the lead for a while, but Tim and Rod soon caught up – while Jasmin and Jermone trailed behind.

The final puzzle saw the teams trying to fit intricate 3D blocks together – and with a slight head start, Tim and Rod were the quickest as they ran to find host Beau Ryan.

After winning the show, they sweetly told the camera: ‘This race challenges you mentally, it challenges you physically.

‘You have the greatest days of your life, you have the worst days of your life. We did it together.’
