The Bachelorette’s Jarrod blames editing for bad portrayal

He’s the controversial reality TV star who’s been labelled a ‘stage five clinger’ by viewers of The Bachelorette.

But Jarrod Woodgate has insisted that his appearances has been editing to look that way and has even suggested that producers encouraged him to do things to get Sophie Monk’s attention.

‘The way they’ve portrayed me, they’ve just focused on what people hate,’ the 31-year-old told TV Week.

‘They’ve made me look extreme!’ The Bachelorette’s Jarrod Woodgate blames editing for his ‘clingy’ TV persona

He continued: ‘They’ve made me look a lot more extreme than I actually am.’

The vineyard manager also said that he was told by producers ‘to grab Sophie’s attention whenever possible.’

Jarrod added: ‘The more of an effort you make, the more likely you’ll stay on the show.’

The Melbourne-based star was recently forced to hand over his Instagram account to his sister when trolls flooded his feed with expletives and abuse.

He told Confidential last week that he’s fed up with the amount of derogatory comments he receives via social media, and asked those who have a problem with him to message him directly.

‘If you do have an issue, private message me, I don’t care,’ he told the publication.

The Victorian vineyard owner explained that the definitive reason why he is asking people to do so is because of his younger nieces and nephews who are constantly exposed to the foul language.

But while fans of the dating reality show are quick to jump to conclusions about the hunky star, it’s Jarrod who claims he’s been completely misunderstood.

The 31-year-old also defended his ‘stage five clinger’ behaviour to The Daily Telegraph, insisting: ‘I’m actually just trying to be a genuine loving caring guy.’

Jarrod secured the first kiss of the series with Sophie and has appeared infatuated and smitten with the blonde bombshell ever since.

In recent episodes he has been quick to point out similarities between himself and Sophie, and has presented the former Bardot singer with numerous gifts, including a his-and-her pot plant to grow their love.

Jarrod claimed his actions on the show are comparable to his life away from TV cameras.

‘If I find a girl that I’m interested in I will move mountains to be that guy and this is exactly the same attitude I had when I went in there,’ he said.

The Bachelorette airs Wednesday and Thursday nights from 7.30pm on Channel Ten
