The Bachelor’s Matt Agnew takes the train to work as a bank data scientist

The Bachelor’s Dr Matt Agnew recently made headlines after it emerged he wasn’t actually working as an astrophysicist, but was instead employed as a data scientist.

And on Tuesday, the 32-year-old looked like an ordinary commuter as he took the morning train to work in Melbourne’s CBD.

The former Swinburne University researcher works at data analytics company Quantium, and is currently on secondment at the National Australia Bank.

Just another banker! On Tuesday, The Bachelor’s Dr Matt Agnew looked like an ordinary commuter as he took the morning train to work in Melbourne’s CBD

Matt looked rather downcast as he rode down an escalator surrounded by other office workers.

He dressed casually for his day at work, wearing a pair of blue jeans and a Barney Cools jumper with a colourful parrot design.

The Adelaide-born reality star completed his outfit with a leather jacket, Tom Ford glasses and white sneakers.

Matt carried a black gym bag over his right shoulder, which suggests he may have scheduled a lunchtime workout session.

He appeared to be listening to music during his solitary walk to work, as he wore wireless Apple AirPods in both ears.

The sighting comes after questions were raised about Matt’s employment.

For months, Channel 10 had billed Matt as a professional astrophysicist, but he abruptly changed careers before The Bachelor premiere.

As first reported by The Sydney Morning Herald last week, Matt is officially employed by data analytics company Quantium.

He is currently working for NAB on a three-month secondment.

A NAB spokesperson refused to confirm if Matt was working at the bank’s Melbourne headquarters, but did say: ‘Quantium from time to time provide contractors to NAB.’

Matt does not list his employment at Quantium on his LinkedIn account.

Speaking to The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Wednesday, he steadfastly denied any suggestion that he is a ‘banker’.

‘Before I went in filming, I was working as an astrophysicist, that’s correct,’ Matt said.

He added: ‘I was still employed as an astrophysicist during filming, I finished up some stuff after filming. But I [have since] pivoted and moved to a position as a data scientist.’

Matt claimed that his new job as a data scientist is actually quite similar to what he was doing before, and has allowed him to ‘develop his skill set’.

‘In the two months I’ve worked for [Quantium], I think I had two maybe three meetings at the NAB offices and this was sufficient to create the story that I’m a banker,’ he added.

During the first episode of The Bachelor, Matt was forced to explain what an ‘astrophysicist’ does after some of the contestants struggled to pronounce the word.

A now-infamous trailer for the show also involved Matt speaking to contestant Abbie Chatfield about his profession at the first cocktail party.

After he revealed his job title (‘I’m an astrophysicist’), Abbie paused before responding: ‘I’m a Gemini!’

She had apparently confused ‘astrophysics’ with ‘astrology’.

The Bachelor continues Wednesday at 7:30pm on Channel 10
