‘I thought I was going to miss it’: The Bachelor’s Matty J reveals he almost missed the birth of his first child

Former Bachelor Matty Johnson made a crucial airport mistake that almost forced Laura Byrne to give birth without her fiancée by her side.

The Luxury Escapes co-host, 32, nearly missed his flight home during a stopover at Singapore Airport ahead of his daughter’s birth last month.

Speaking to 10 Daily this week, Matty revealed he was in the wrong terminal and had to sprint across the airport to reach his plane in time.

Matty had flown to Abu Dhabi, Barcelona and Hong Kong during a filming trip for Luxury Escapes before flying back down under via Singapore.

‘I thought to myself, “If I miss this flight, then I’m going to miss the birth”,’ he said.

The former Bachelor admitted he has a ‘terrible’ track record for missing flights and got ‘too comfortable’ during the four hour layover.

Matty didn’t realise he was in the wrong terminal until an airport worker told him his flight was about to leave.

‘I was that lunatic in the airport sprinting with my bag flailing behind me, only half my jacket was on and I was the very last person to get on that flight,’ he said.

‘And the moment I stood on that plane, they then shut the door and started taxiing towards takeoff.’

Fortunately, Matty arrived home five weeks ahead of Laura giving birth to their baby Marlie-Mae Rose on June 19.

The couple have since embraced their new parent lifestyle, being spotted looking tired but happy with their baby girl.

Three weeks after giving birth, Laura has already returned to work at her ToniMay jewellery business.
