The Bachelor’s Sam Wood reveals the real reason why the Channel 10 show has suffered a devastating ratings plunge

The Bachelor’s Sam Wood has revealed why the reality dating series has plunged in the ratings.

The personal trainer spoke to Life Uncut this week and offered a diplomatic take on why the show has failed to rate.

‘There’s probably other shows a bit like it and people are streaming all of these different things. I think it’s a TV in general thing,’ he said.

Sam also hinted that audiences were questioning the intentions of the cast – which differed in his and Matty Johnson’s seasons.

‘They have realised it can be a launching pad onto other things,’ he said.

‘Therefore that’s the main reason they are on it.’

Jimmy Nicholson’s season of The Bachelor had its lowest-ever premiere ratings last year, with just 482,000 metro viewers tuning for the first episode.

Meanwhile, The Bachelorette sank to its lowest ever ratings in November, pulling in just 249,000 viewers.

Back in 2013, 1.186million metro viewers tuned in to see Tim choose Anna during the series finale. The pair married in 2018, and share baby Elle, one, together.

When asked if the franchise should be cancelled, Tim responded: ‘It’s not really my place to say on a show like that, but I think it’s a hard one. It’s up to Channel 10.’

Former Bachelor Tim Robards echoed those same sentiments to Daily Mail Australia in November, with him finding love with Anna Heinrich.

‘When a show has been going for so many seasons, it’s a lot,’ he said.

‘I guess with formats they have got to be fresh, so that’s always going to be a challenge with something like that.’

Tim went on to say he was lucky to star on the show when it was ‘fresh’ and even hinted it could go on a hiatus.

‘Sometimes they have a break for a while, then they rejuvenate and bring them back out, or put a bit of a twist on it,’ he said.
