Australian music royalty have seemingly taken Covid lockdown fashion as their inspiration at the 2021 ARIA Awards – but a select few hit all the right notes in simple and elegant styles.

Celebrities posed up a storm before the ceremony was broadcast live on YouTube and Channel Nine from Sydney’s Taronga Zoo, with no regular red carpet or physical audience as pandemic restrictions continue to disrupt the normal structure of major events.  

Singer Amy Shark, who leads the nominations alongside hip hop newcomer Genesis Owusu with six each, arrived first in a tailored pair of black suit pants, a fuzzy bone-coloured cardigan buttoned up to the top of her chest and matching black nail polish.

While her Covid isolation-approved top knot would be rubber-stamped by all Australian residents who endured months of lockdown this year, it missed the mark in terms of event style, given this is the first substantial awards ceremony Down Under this year and she will be performing.

Brooke Boney smiled bright with a pair of cream-coloured trousers that grazed the carpet, a silk white blouse and plenty of bling in the form of a diamante-encrusted belt and rings, with the Today Showbiz reporter presenting 16 ARIA Awards in the first part of the broadcast

Gretta Ray certainly made her presence known with a risqué black gown with tactical cut outs at her hips and across her chest but it was perfectly balanced with minimal jewellery and a Delta Goodrem-inspired blonde fringe and tousled hair-do

Hitmaker Vance Joy, who is up for five nominations, kept his look demure in a navy blue suit, white shirt and long grey tie with black formal shoes. It was a safe choice for the singer of Missing Piece – a song he is looking to win an award for tonight.
