The best Boxing Day deals revealed as Australians prepare to spend $20billion in shopping bonanza

Bargain hunters are gearing up for the Boxing Day sales, Australia’s biggest shopping day of the year, with massive savings of up to 70 per cent on offer on clothes, electronics, household goods and beauty products – just to name a few.

Australians are expected to splash $2.62billion on Thursday alone with a whopping $18.7 billion to be spent over the next three weeks until January 15.

New South Wales will lead the spending bonanza with cash registers ringing to the tune of $871 million on Thursday, followed by Victoria ($825 million) and Queensland ($420 million).

The first bargain hunters will be charging through the doors of David Jones at 5am

The country’s biggest retailers have slashed prices nationwide and whether it’s fashion, homewares, toys, electronic gadgets, appliances, travel deals or televisions – there’s a bargain for everyone.

In Sydney and Melbourne, eager bargain hunters will flock to department stores giants Myer and David Jones early, who will open their flagship CBD doors at 5am.

Some shoppers were so keen they camped outside stores overnight to beat the crowds and snag the best bargains.

Australians are getting smarter at the Boxing Day sales every year, according to consumer advocacy group Choice.

‘People are looking to save money on the big household items – washing machines, TVs, fridges and the like,’ managing editor Margaret Rafferty said.

‘Despite our enthusiasm for bargains, the reality is this is a day where retailers often try to fob off the duds they couldn’t sell throughout the year.

‘You can pick up a bargain, but research is everything. The good news is we can see Australians doing their research well before hitting the shops.’

As one of the biggest shopping days of the year kicks off, Daily Mail Australia has found some of the biggest bargains.
