Speaking to HLN this month, Belgian radio presenter Anke Buckinx said the Channel Nine program makes Australia look like a ‘dream’.

When asked why people are obsessed with the show, she replied: ‘[It’s] the extreme characters, the fact that something always happens, and then you have the beautiful images of Sydney and the Gold Coast!’

Other Belgian viewers have echoed her sentiments, with many leaving comments on social media praising the scenery and sweeping views of Sydney.

‘For my daughter and myself it is also a guilty pleasure, and you also see some of Australia!’ one person wrote.

Despite the show being a glowing advert for Australian tourism, overseas viewers are less convinced by the characters on screen.

‘I believe that it is completely staged and acted,’ one Belgian viewer wrote online.

Many Belgian viewers have claimed that Australia’s Married At First Sight, which airs on the VTM network, is better than their local version of the show, Blind Married.

Several people have called Blind Married ‘boring’ by comparison, mainly due to the fact it lacks affairs, catfights and scandals.
