The Block judge Neale Whitaker weighs in on Omar and Oz’s piano scandal: ‘If they broke the rules they deserve to take the punishment’

The Block judge Neale Whitaker says Omar and Oz deserved to be disqualified on Sunday night’s episode of the renovation series after last week’s living and dining room challenge.

The best pals broke the rules by buying a baby grand piano for their room at a heavily discounted price.

The interior designer, 60, insisted the decision was a fair one when he appeared on Today Extra on Monday.

The Block judge Neale Whitaker says Omar and Oz deserved to be disqualified on Sunday night’s episode of the renovation series after last week’s living and dining room challenge

‘The rules are the rules are the rules,’ Neale told host David Campbell.

‘Even they know the rules like all the contestants do and they are not supposed to purchase anything at less than 50% of retail price. And the guys did.

‘So while on the one hand it was fantastic to see a grand piano on The Block – we have seen one just once before I think – at the end of the day if they broke the rules they deserve to take the punishment.’

Omar and Oz were left bitterly disappointed when they disqualified on Sunday.

The boys delivered a near-perfect room with the judges heaping praise on them, but it wasn’t long before they received an earful from host Scott Cam.

‘$7,500, that’s what we got it for,’ Omar said after suspicion was raised about where they got the money for the piano.

‘That’s impossible, they retail for $36,000,’ Scott fired back.

According to the rules on The Block, teams can only get a 50 per cent discount off the retail price.

The boys ended up breaking the rules after getting such a heavily discounted product, meaning three points was deducted from them.

‘You can’t expect me to let that slide boys,’ Scott Cam said.
