The Block outrage: Mitch and Mark are already rich property flippers

‘The other couples felt it was unfair’: The Block teams outraged to discover ‘stylish grandpas’ Mitch and Mark made $3.5million flipping houses AND once starred in another reality show

The Block contestants are reportedly furious after discovering that Sydney couple Mitch Edwards, 56, and Mark McKie 57, are professional property flippers.

The ‘stylish granddads’, who are competing against four inexperienced couples on the Channel Nine renovation show, have 13 years of renovating experience – which has been deemed by critics as ‘unfair’.

The couple-of-14-years have reportedly made a profit of $3.5million over the years and run a successful interior design business in Sydney, and an insider told Woman’s Day on Monday that fellow contestants are outraged.

‘It was a big point of conversation behind the scenes,’ the source said.

‘The other couples definitively felt it was unfair. The last thing you want to find out is that you’re up against a team who essentially do this for a living.’

The pair have flipped 15 properties with budgets ranging from $30,000 to $250,000, however their official bios state that they ‘have no practical building experience, and have never been “on the tools”.’

In addition to claims of them having an ‘unfair advantage’, Mitch and Mark appeared on a similar reality show in 2017: Channel Seven’s Aussie Property Flippers.

They have reportedly also set their sights on Seven’s My Kitchen Rules, with a source claiming ‘Mitch has worked in hospitality for a long time and is very well connected in those circles.’

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Channel Nine for comment.

Mitch and Mark are among five couples competing on this season of The Block.

Contestants include Cairns couple Tess and Luke, Melbourne’s Jesse and Mel, El’ise and Matt from Perth, and Andy and Deb from Wallabi Point.

Season 15 premiered on Sunday and has been touted as the ‘biggest Block yet’, as contestants renovate five separate three-storey terraces in a St Kilda building previously known as The Oslo Hotel.

Last year, controversial couple Sara and Hayden Vale won the series.
