The Block’s toughest final week ever: Shock hospitalisation, rain damage and fears homes won’t sell

Inside The Block’s toughest final week: A shock hospitalisation, rain damage and fears the homes WON’T sell leave teams regretting they signed up

This year’s season of The Block has been particularly gruelling with the Blockheads dealing with infighting, weather damage and emotional breakdowns.

With just one week to go before the grand finale, there are now legitimate fears some contestants won’t make a profit as their houses head to auction.

‘The Block houses aren’t cheap to put together and the market has taken a big hit with rising interest rates,’ a source told New Idea.

They said a combination of low morale, severe weather and tough market conditions has put several teams at risk of not completing their projects.

‘All the rain caused massive headaches and left some teams unable to finish on time. The market has taken a big hit with rising interest rates,’ the insider explained.

The rising tensions came to a head on Sunday with controversial contestants Sharon Johal and Ankur Dogra admitting they didn’t have fun on the show.

‘We were stressed out of our brains right to the finish. We never enjoyed a minute of it,’ Sharon said.

It comes after Sunday’s episode of The Block descended into chaos after a carpenter decided to quit the show right before the finish line.

Sharon and Ankur were left with one tradie down 16 hours before deadline after clashing with Scotty the chippie.

The pair frequently clashed with Scotty and their builder Liam throughout the season, with both parties accusing the other of not pulling their weight.

During the dramatic episode, Scotty was shown on camera clocking off for the final time at 4.30pm and not returning.

‘The big dog’s out of here!’ he announced, before telling producers this was definitely ‘the last time’ he’d ever appear on the show.

Meanwhile, contestant Jenny Heath suffered a nasty fall hours before tools down.

The carpenter, 26, who is the first lady tradie to ever appear on the Nine renovation series, slipped in the dark while using her iPhone torch.

Jenny could be heard screaming in pain as her fiancé Dylan frantically tried to comfort her as she sat injured on the deck.
