Since conjuring the idea for the footwear while playing for the Newcastle Jets, Allbirds founder Tim Brown has gone on to sell more than one million pairs and has seen his offering described as ‘the most comfortable shoes in the world’.

The secret to the comfort of the shoe lies in the eucalyptus extract used during manufacturing.

‘We’ve used 3D knitting to take eucalyptus fibre and its cooling properties which are perfect for sweaty feet and create a running shoe,’ Mr Brown told Green + Simple.

‘Eucalyptus has both incredible hand-feel and softness but also a naturally cooling property that made it the perfect solution.’
