The cheeky request Matt Shirvington gets from fans after he became a heartthrob on the track

Matt Shirvington is set to replace David ‘Kochie’ Koch on Sunrise next week. 

And the former Olympian has revealed the very cheeky requests he’s had from fans over the years after rising to fame on the race track. 

Matt, 44, said he’s had to sign autographs on people’s bodies before – and he happily obliged. 

‘I have signed all manner of body parts over the years,’ Matt told PerthNow

On a more serious note, the former sprinter recalled one sweet moment he shared with a young fan and runner.

He revealed he once sent his spikes to a kid who went on to compete with them on the track years later. 

‘I remember thinking at the time, you really have to follow through for your fans and the people who support you because who knows what it will lead to,’ he explained. 

Matt will take over for Kochie, 67, from next Monday and co-host Sunrise alongside Natalie Barr, 55. 

Speaking about his new role, Matt said he has big shoes to fill, but is ‘excited’ to take on the reins of the breakfast TV show.

‘It’s an honour and a privilege to take over such a coveted job which represents so much of what Australian TV is — the good, the bad and the ugly, and being a connection to that,’ he said.

The official announcement was made during the breakfast show on Monday morning, four days before Koch, 67, films his final show on Friday.

Shirvington, 44, said he was feeling ‘mixed emotions’ about the new gig as he joined Barr and Koch on the couch for the announcement.

‘Just amazing. Daunted. So excited. Happy. Cannot tell you the honour and privilege this is, Kochie, particularly. A huge job. A huge job. And an exciting job,’ he said.

Both Koch and Barr said they were thrilled with the choice.

‘What we do always is when you’re a member of the family, you stay a member of the family, don’t you. And you come through. And you’ve been fantastic filling in and every Friday, it’s been sensational. You are going to been sensational. You are going to be the perfect fit,’ Koch said.

During the segment Barr and Koch also played a video of the former Olympian competing in a race wearing a skin-tight jumpsuit.

The tight outfit that drew attention to Shirvington’s infamous bulge as he bolted down the track.

Fans of the athlete will remember how photos of Shirvington revealing his rather large manhood went viral back in 1998 while he was competing in the Commonwealth Games.

Earlier in the show Koch teased his replacement, telling viewers ‘ I will guarantee they will be younger and better looking. That’s open to everybody! It’s a wide field,’ he said.

It’s not known how much Shirvington will be paid for the role, but Koch was reportedly sitting on a salary of $1million.
