A man texted his work mates to say he was running late before donning a camouflage outfit and raping a 12-year-old girl on her way to school.

The 33-year-old man, who cannot be named, sent two identical text messages to two different people at about 6am, less than two hours before he grabbed the young girl from the street on the Central Coast, north of Sydney, in May 2017.

‘I’m running a bit late boys, I’ll be there asap’, the man said, according to court documents.

Dressed in a head to toe camouflage outfit known as a leafy ghillie suit, the man walked up behind the girl at 7.40am as she walked alone to school and dragged her into nearby bushland.

He tied the girl to a tree before sexually assaulting her.

The man appeared briefly in the Gosford District Court on Wednesday when judge Tanya Bright confirmed a suppression order would remain in place banning the publication of any information which could lead to the identity of his two victims being revealed.

The man has pleaded guilty to a total of 10 charges – seven offences involving the rape of the 12-year-old girl on May 15, 2017, and three offences involving the grooming and sexual abuse of another girl, aged 11, between August 2016 and April 2017.

Court documents reveal the 12-year-old girl was walking along a bush track when she looked back and saw the man suddenly emerge from the bushes.

‘He was wearing a full body camouflage hunting outfit and raising a tree branch about 75cm long and about 6cm wide towards her,’ the documents said.

‘(The girl) was so shocked she thought she might collapse.

‘She said, ”Stop, stop, stop”, trying to tell him not to hit her with the stick.

‘The offender put her in a headlock that was not tight but prevented her escape.

‘He forced her into the bush, saying ”Shhh, don’t scream. Don’t scream or I’ll have to hurt you”.’

Holding a knife in his right hand, the man tied the girl’s hands and feet with cable ties before tying her to a tree and sexually assaulting her for nearly an hour.

The man then cut the girl loose and she ran crying to school. She was hysterical.

The man, who had not replied to several text messages and three phone calls from workmates, turned up to work at about 9.30am.

With pieces of dirt, grass and tree matter on his clothes, the man claimed to have been involved in a road rage incident where he had chased another driver into bushland and fallen down an embankment.

The man, who appeared via audio visual link from prison on Wednesday, was remanded for a sentencing hearing in June.
