The clause that could see Anthony Mundine hit with a multimillion-dollar fine for Jeff Horn fight

Boxer Anthony Mundine faces a hefty fine if he tips the scales over the weight limit in the lead-up to his much-anticipated showdown with Jeff Horn.

Both fighters have agreed to weigh in at 71kg or under, 24 hours before the fight and 75kg or under an hour before the bout scheduled to take place at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium in November, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Following lengthy negotiations, it’s understood Mundine, 43, will fork out $50,000 to the former WBO welterweight title holder Horn, 30, for every 100g he’s above the contracted weight.

It means a minimum $1million payout to Horn if Mundine is two kilograms over the limit.

Mundine’s advisor Emaid Dib described the clause as ‘a lot of money for the weight of a Big Mac.’

But Horn’s manager Glenn Rushton told the publication that they have given ground over Mundine’s weight advantage after Mundine demanded the weight limit be raised from 70kg to 71kg.

Horn’s usual fighting weight is 66kg.

‘He agreed to that weight (70kg) but then changed the goalposts and said he wanted 71kg,’ Rushton said.

‘So to make the fight happen we said `yes’. When someone baulks at penalties it makes me think that they want to break the rules.’

Mundine’s camp described Rushton’s demands as a sign of ‘panic’ and insisted he’s ready to fight Horn now.

‘Jeff Horn is in for a really big shock,’ Dib said.

Mundine came out fighting in the first round of sledges against Horn last month.

‘This boy is going to get hurt, you better have the paramedics there, you better have the ambulance at ring side because I’m telling you, it might end early,’ Mundine told 7 News Brisbane.

‘I’m going to hit him with that many lefts, he’ll be begging for a right.’

Mundine’s boxing record stands at 48 wins from 56 fights, while Horn has recorded 18 wins, one draw and one loss.
