The Crown’s Elizabeth Debicki dons a navy blazer to film scenes as Princess Diana in Spain

Elizabeth Debicki donned a navy blazer on Thursday as she once again transformed into Princess Diana to film new scenes for Netflix hit The Crown.

The Australian actress, 32, bore an uncanny resemblance to the late royal as she filmed scenes on set in Palma De Mallorca, Spain.

Based on the costume, the scenes are thought to depict the royal as she arrived at Luanda Airport, Angola, at the start of her January 1997 Red Cross visit to publicise efforts to rid the country of landmines.

Elizabeth recreated one of Diana’s relaxed outfits for the visit, donning a chic navy blazer with jeans and trainers.

She was there to tour four Red Cross projects in the country, which was in the middle of a quiet period during its decades-long civil war.

The conflict began in 1975 with its independence and went through periods of fighting, however the conflict finally ended in 2002.

When Diana visited the country was – and still is – one of the most mined in the world.

After arriving at the airport Diana said there ‘couldn’t be a more appropriate place to begin this campaign’ during a speech to reporters.

She said: ‘It’s an enormous privilege for me to have been invited here to Angola in order to assist the Red Cross in its campaign to ban, once and for all, anti-personnel landmines.

‘There couldn’t be a more appropriate place to begin this campaign than Angola because this nation has the highest number of amputees per population than anywhere in the world.

‘By visiting Angola, we shall gain an understanding of the plight of the victims of landmines, and how survivors are helped to recover from their injuries,’ she continued.

‘We’ll also be able to observe the wider implications of these devastating weapons on the life of this country as a whole. ‘It is my sincere hope that by working together in the next few days, we shall focus world attention on this vital – but until now, largely neglected – issue.’

The Crown was suspended for one day as a ‘mark of respect’ to the Queen, who passed away aged 96 on September 8 at Balmoral Castle.

Elizabeth was seen filming one of Diana’s final public appearances, when she visited the Bosnian capital of Sarajevo, just four days after work on the series was paused.

No doubt The Crown is adhering to a strict filming schedule to ensure its sixth and final series is released by Netflix on time.

Filming also did not take place on the day of the Queen’s funeral.

However, SER Catalunya have reported scenes that would cover Princess Diana’s death in August 1997 were being suspended following the death of Her Majesty.

The set, which had been built in a district of Barcelona, had been modified to resemble a Parisian street with French road signs.

Netflix had reportedly devised a plan, also named Operation London Bridge like the official funeral plan for the Queen, to outline what the production company for The Crown would do in the event of her passing.

One of the show’s creators Stephen Daldry said when the show first premiered in 2016 the cast would likely stop production, saying: ‘It would be a simple tribute and a mark of respect. She’s a global figure and it’s what we should do.’

Peter Morgan, writer of the drama, was quoted after news of the Queen’s death was confirmed as saying: ‘The Crown is a love letter to her and I’ve nothing to add for now, just silence and respect. I expect we will stop filming out of respect too.’
