Hundreds of foodies are heaping praise on a simple recipe for vanilla slice, with many agreeing that the dish is ‘better than a bakery’.

Australian woman Kylie shared a photo of her ‘speedy vanilla slice’ on Facebook alongside the recipe, and was quickly met with delight from dozens of home bakers.

‘I saw this recipe for a speedy vanilla slice and I made it for a work morning tea. It was a hit,’ Kylie wrote.

‘I had to triple the mixture for this large baking dish, but it was all gone in 20 minutes!

‘It’s now my hubby’s favourite dish and he is in heaven now I can make it better than a bakery.’

To make the simple dish, all you’ll need is a few ingredients including a packet of lattice biscuits, a packet of vanilla pudding mix, 600mL of thickened cream and butter. 

Kylie said she also added a passionfruit icing with passionfruit pulp from two passionfruits and icing sugar.

‘Make sure you chill it before you put any cling wrap on top,’ she warned.  

Hundreds were impressed with the delicious dessert, writing ‘this is an oldie but a goodie’ and ‘delicious’.

Others said they also make the dish and take it to work, and it’s always gone by the time the biscuit tin has been opened.

‘My mum used to make this with Sao biscuits and it was so yummy,’ one commenter posted.

‘I’m making this today,’ another added.

How to make the vanilla slice

INGREDIENTS

200g packet Lattice biscuits

600mL cream

100g packet Vanilla Pudding mix  

1 cup icing sugar

2 passionfruit pulp

1 tablespoon butter softened

METHOD

1. Line a 20 x 30cm lasagna dish with baking paper.

2.  Layer with eight Lattice biscuits flat side up.

3. In a bowl, using electric beaters, mix cream and pudding until thick.

4. Spoon the creamy mixture over the biscuit base.

5. Top with another layer of biscuits, shiny side up.

6. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before topping with passionfruit icing.

7. To make the icing, mix together the icing sugar, passionfruit and butter until an even spreadable consistency is reached. Add more passionfruit if required.

This isn’t the first simple vanilla slice recipe to wow online.

Previously, home cooks revealed how they are whipping up decadent vanilla slices using just three basic ingredients found in their kitchen. 

One Australian woman challenged fellow bakers on social media to share their recipes on how they created vanilla slices using a $1.50 Aeroplane vanilla flavoured custard mix, $3 thickened cream and a $3 pack of Arnott’s Lattice biscuits.

Many quickly responded to the thread with their own versions after they used the same products to whip up the simple dessert at home.
