A speed camera along a popular highway fines motorists more than $4600 an hour.
The Bruce Highway, near Gympie in Queensland, issued 156 infringement notices in 5.5 hours, according to the Courier Mail.
Based on the publications estimations, that equates to roughly $25,000 a day and close to one driver being pinged every minute or two.

The top five mobile cameras for issuing the most fines per hour included Gympie, Glanmire, Stuart and Morayfield.
All five spots were along the Bruce Highway.
According to the publication, the most costly camera is a fixed one at Burpengary which issued 4235 fines over more than 8500 hours of operation.

In a 2014 study, the Queensland Government website revealed that the state’s speed and red light cameras were believed to ‘be associated with savings of nearly 6,000 police reported crashes annually between 2009 and 2012.’
It claimed that this led to annual savings of around $650million.
In April, a media release from the Royal Automobile Club of Queensland (RACQ) claimed that motorists were slapped with around $90million in fines.
RACQ states that more than two thirds of the speeding fines between November 1 2016 and October 31 the following year were for drivers who were over the limit by less than 13km/h.
RACQ spokesperson Renee Smith said in the release: ‘Most of those speedsters were caught by mobile speed cameras, proving police are out in force, and will catch anyone flouting the law.
‘You risk not just a $168 fine and one demerit point, you could cause a serious crash.’
