Vulnerable people who don’t want to go out during the coronavirus pandemic can now order groceries from McDonald’s.

The fast food chain will now offer delivery for essential items milk, bread and eggs over the coming weeks in New South Wales and Canberra from Saturday.

The option will be available in South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and the Northern Territory stores on April 15. Western Australia stores will sell the items as of April 18.

‘We’re pleased to be able to continue to expand this offering to help the community safely access essential items like milk, bread and eggs, as well as their usual Macca’s favourites,’ McDonald’s said in a statement.

‘Over the coming week, we’ll be adding another basic essential to our menu, making cartons of eggs available to our customers.

‘Anyone who comes to a Macca’s for our contactless drive-thru or takeaway service will now be able to pick-up milk, English muffins, bread rolls and eggs.’

The household items are also available through its contactless drive-thru, takeaway service and McDelivery.

The restaurant stopped customers dining in on March 23, with food and drinks only available through to takeaway to abide by social distancing rules.

It comes as supermarkets across Australia have had their shelves left bare by coronavirus panic-buyers who stockpiled goods, including toilet paper and eggs.
