The heroic lawyer who chased the Sydney knifeman with a chair has been revealed as the father of Australian actress Anna Bamford. 

John Bamford was seen wielding a chair as he confronted alleged knifeman Mert Ney, 20, in Sydney’s CBD on Tuesday .  

The 29-year-old former Home and Away actress confirmed on Instagram she is the daughter of Mr Bamford.

‘Feeling incredibly proud of my dad,’ she wrote on a picture of Mr Bamford bravely confronting the alleged killer with a chair. 

The image as shared to Twitter by one of Ms Bamford’s friends saying: ‘If you had to raise Anna Bamford you’d be this brave too’. 

Ms Bamford, who is now based in New York, grew up in Sydney and studied at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

She also starred in Channel 10’s ‘Wonderland’, about an apartment block in Bondi, 2013. 

Ms Bamford also appeared in Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries and starred in Home and Away as Jeannie Woods in 2016.

She also had small roles in Underbelly Files: Chopper and Here Come the Habibs!.

She also shared a throwback picture of the pair to mark the date in 2017, writing: ‘Happy Aussie Birthday to my DAD! teaching me what’s what from day dot #likehowtoholdmyteacup #numberonedude’.

Speaking to Sunrise on Wednesday, Mr Bamford said he had no other option but to try to stop the attacker.

‘What am I going to do? Go home and say I could have done something but I didn’t?’ he said.

‘He wasn’t going to frighten me.’

‘Shortly after I grabbed the chair he’d already stabbed the woman… so I had no other choice.’

Even when Ney allegedly claimed he had a bomb in his bag, Mr Bamford refused to flee. Mr Bamford said he did not believe he had a bomb as the bag was unzipped. 

Ney is accused of killing Michaela Dunn, 24 in a Clarence Street apartment before stabbing Linda Bo, 41, in the back.

The alleged rampage ended when Ney was pinned to the ground at Wynyard Park. 

Mr Bamford has been widely praised for his bravery.
