Barry Du Bois has opened up about his battle with blood cancer.
The 63-year-old star of Channel 10’s The Living Room was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2017, having struggled through an earlier cancer challenge in 2010.
Five years ago the father-of-two was told his condition was terminal and Barry says now that he would have ‘eaten s**t’ to have more time with his family and wife Leonie.
Interviewed in Saturday’s Adelaide Advertiser, the popular reality star talked about his determination to fight the terrible disease and said he is the ‘picture of health’ amid his battle and despite the disease being incurable.
‘Because when you are being told, ”okay, you’ve got three months to live,” you suddenly realise that your life is like a river,’ Barry explained.

‘And in three months, you can see the end,’ he continued, ‘so that end is a waterfall… and you do whatever you can to push it back.
‘So I looked, and I’m still looking, for every advantage I can find to give me an extra second, an extra day, maybe a week, or even a month with my children and this beautiful life that I’ve been gifted.’
Barry’s cancer fight has led him to taking a rigorous ‘wellness’ routine including meditation, yoga, and special breathing exercises.

Interviewed while enjoying a South African safari holiday, Barry says that despite his blood cancer he is ‘the picture of health’.
He was diagnosed with cancer of the bone marrow (plasmacytoma myeloma) in 2011, after battling chronic neck pain.
He underwent surgery and radiotherapy, which proved to be successful. However, the cancer returned as a multiple myeloma in 2017, requiring him to undergo chemotherapy. His cancer is not curable.
In a surprise move Barry made a run for the Senate as independent in the last federal election in 2022.
But he pulled out of the race after deciding that ‘health and family come first’.

Meanwhile, the reality star will appear at the Wellness Wander 2023 festival in the Adelaide Hills which begins on March 31 and runs to April 2.
Barry is married to his partner Leonie, and is father to their ten-year-old twins Arabella and Bennet.
It comes after Channel 10 recently announced that The Living Room would be ‘rested’ and on ‘hiatus’ in 2023.
And the show’s main host Amanda Keller says she is uncertain about the future of the popular program.
Keller said the cast, which also includes Chris Brown, Barry DuBois and Miguel Maestre, were baffled by the terminology used by the network to explain the decision.

Keller confirmed the show’s cancellation on her WSFM breakfast program Jonesy & Amanda back in October.
She said it was partly a network decision to give the producers time to reformat the series ahead of a potential return.
She promised fans the show would return in 2024 with the ‘awesome foursome’ – comprising Amanda, Miguel, Barry Du Bois and Dr Chris Brown – resuming hosting duties. However, Chris has now moved to Channel Seven.
Keller said it was a ‘sad’ but necessary move, with the year-long hiatus required to ensure The Living Room has a ‘brilliant’ comeback.
