The Masked Singer: Former Home Secretary Alan Johnson, 69, is unveiled as the mystery Pharaoh as his rendition of Walk Like An Egyptian fails to impress the judges

Former Home Secretary Alan Johnson was unveiled as the mystery Pharaoh on Sunday’s episode of The Masked Singer.

The new ITV singing competition sees celebrities disguised as various characters as they perform to Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross, Rita Ora, Ken Jeong and an audience in a bid to stay on the show. 

Alan, 69, took to the stage on Sunday’s episode disguised as a Pharaoh as he performed to The Bangles’ hit song Walk Like An Egyptian.

Yet despite giving the performance his all, the politician, who served as Home Secretary from June 2009 to May 2010, failed to impress the judging panel and consequently had his identity revealed. 

Ahead of the big reveal, the four judges had to guess who was behind the mask with Jonathan picking Vince Cable, Davina and Rita assuming it was former politician Ed Balls and Ken boldly predicting it was Tony Blair. 

Talking after his true identity was unveiled, Alan admitted that he found it ‘very hard’ to keep his show debut a secret and that his costume should go ‘straight to a museum’.
