But what about the US? Here FEMAIL breaks down some of the most terrifying movies that are on streaming services and why they caused such a stir.

And like its predecessor, which went viral for one particularly horrifying death scene involving somebody being sawn in half in a brutal fashion, Terrifier 2 didn’t shy away from its infamous gore.

Austrian horror-thriller Goodnight Mommy made people faint
Not to be confused with the American remake of the same name, Austrian horror-thriller Goodnight Mommy, released in 2014, centers on twin brothers whose mother returns to their countryside home with her face heavily bandaged after apparently undergoing cosmetic surgery.
But the boys begin to suspect the woman under the bandages isn’t their normally affectionate mother as she starts exhibiting strange and distant behavior.
Following its release, reports surfaced people were fainting during the film due to its confronting scenes of violence.
But its creators seemed unfazed by the reactions.
‘Two people fainted,’ one of the film’s directors Severin Fiala told IndieWire, adding: ‘That’s the best compliment we’ve had so far.’

An example of one graphic scene involves sexual mutilation.
At the time, The Guardian asked if Antichrist was ‘a work of genius or the sickest film in the history of cinema?’

The film was deemed so offensive it was banned in France seven years after its release in 2016, Yahoo reported.
Its 16 classification, which meant anyone under that age wasn’t allowed to see it, was upped to over 18s after pressure from Catholic traditionalist group Promouvoir.
This meant the film was barred from movie theaters, and could not be released on TV and DVD.
If you think you can stomach it, Antichrist is available to stream on Tubi, and YouTube with a primetime subscription.

‘Extremely gruesome’ Eden Lake was ‘hard to watch’
Michael Fassbender and Kelly Reilly, pre Yellowstone fame, star as a couple who go off camping for the weekend in this 2008 film.
Their trip begins innocently enough with swimming, sunbathing and taking in the tranquility of the lake before its spoiled by rowdy teens.
The couple confront the youths about their behavior, but then the weekend takes a dangerous turn, which MailOnline’s Chris Tookey described at the time as ‘extremely gruesome.’
‘Even though I have been desensitised by many hours of watching big-screen violence, I found some of it hard to watch. But for once the violence has a point, and it’s treated responsibly,’ he wrote under the headline, ‘Eden Lake: A great movie (if you can stomach it).’

Similarly, The Guardian’s Alex Hess wrote in 2014: ‘Having to watch Fassbender being trapped, hunted, tortured, tied up and burned alive is simply the most profoundly harrowing cinematic experience I’ve ever had to endure.’
The defunct ViewLondon reviewer Matthew Turner wrote: ‘A well acted, smartly directed horror flick that’s gory, disturbing, terrifying and topical.’
One Rotten Tomatoes review read: ‘Being from the UK, this movie hit hard with me. It was so realistic. I never expected the movie to get as gritty or as gory as it ended up but it was a massive surprise. I felt it had to go extreme to get its point across.
‘The bigger message in this film was the influence parents have on their children. A statement that is so important in modern society. This has been one of the best horror movies of the 21st century.’
Eden Lake is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
