The new Queen’s speech: Trailer for The Crown Season 3 reveals how Olivia Colman’s Elizabeth sounds

Hear the new Queen’s speech: Fresh trailer for The Crown Season 3 reveals what Olivia Colman’s Elizabeth sounds like – as Claire Foy makes a shock cameo

Netflix has finally dropped a meaty teaser for The Crown’s third season – in which Olivia Colman actually speaks.

The Oscar-winner, 45, has taken over the role of Queen Elizabeth II in the royal drama, and the latest teaser gives fans a long-awaited glimpse at her portrayal of the monarch.

Previous trailers have featured the actress as the Queen, but only in brief glimpses, without her even saying one word.

But in the latest clip, fans finally hear the new Queen chatting to her advisers – and making witty quips along the way.

What’s more, outgoing star Claire Foy makes a shock appearance in the brief scene too.

The teaser sees Elizabeth II being shown the updated version of the British postage stamp – which features her own profile.

Scrutinising it in a room full of men (and two corgis), the Queen wears a mauve suit and pearls as she surveys the old stamp – featuring Foy – against the new – featuring Colman.

‘Everyone is delighted with the new profile, ma’am,’ one of her advisers says. ‘Which they feel to be an elegant reflection of her majesty’s transition from young woman to…’

‘Old bat?’ the Queen interrupts.

To which her adviser responds: ‘Settled sovereign!’

As she looks at the two enlarged stamps before her, her adviser adds: ‘Just the tiniest changes.’

To which Elizabeth corrects him: ‘A great many changes. Nothing one can do about it. One just has to get on with it!’

While that’s where the teaser ends, fans’ appetites will surely be whetted sufficiently with this morsel from season three, which is not streaming on Netflix for another two months.

The third season of The Crown sees a new guard sweep into Downing Street, as Queen Elizabeth and her family struggle to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing Britain.

From cold-war paranoia, through to the jet-set and the space age – the exuberance of the 1960s and the long hangover of the 1970s – Elizabeth and the Royals must adapt to a new, more liberated, but also more turbulent world.

Written by Peter Morgan, The Crown also stars Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, Tobias Menzies as The Duke of Edinburgh, Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles, Erin Doherty as Princess Anne, Ben Daniels as Lord Snowdon, Jason Watkins as Prime Minister Harold Wilson and Charles Dance as Lord Mountbatten.

The Crown Season 3 launches globally on Sunday, November 17.
