Jermain began: ‘Thank you for joining us Carrie-Anne, now you obviously played Trinity in The Matrix movies.

‘But a lot of fans are actually surprised to hear that you’re in the latest film because you did die at the end of the last one.’

Lauren jumping in, asserting: ‘Spoiler!’ to which Jermaine insisted: ‘It was 18 years ago, it’s not a spoiler.’

Lauren added: ‘It feels like yesterday,’ before Jermaine swiped: ‘It’s not, alright’ before swiftly turning his attention back to Carrie-Anne.

The former sports star asked the actress: ‘But were you surprised to get the call?’

Ignoring the co-hosts’ on-air bickering, Carrie-Anne said: ‘Oh yeah, I was completely shocked. I never saw it coming.

‘I got a text from Lana Wachowski, the director of Resurrections and I literally… erm well, Keanu [Reeves] jokes that “he had to stand up and that I actually had to sit down”.

‘I was thrilled and I said ‘yes’ right away because of the opportunity to be with Keanu again and to be with Lana and to get to be Trinity again, and to yell “Neo”.

‘I mean it’s the dream job, it’s been the greatest acting job of my life and it goes beyond the acting because I love all of the different themes of the movie and just the creative experience is just incredible. I’m so grateful.’

On Monday, Warner Bros. Pictures unveiled the second trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, which revealed the first glimpse of Jada Pinkett Smith back as Zion rebel Niobe.

It’s been 18 years since audiences have seen the 50-year-old Daytime Emmy winner as the skeptical Logos captain/pilot, who used to date Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne).

‘It’s so easy to forget how much noise the Matrix pumps into your head. Something else makes the same kind of noise – war,’ said Niobe, wearing old age make-up, in the new preview.

More of the plot is teased as the new younger Morpheus – played by Candyman’s Yahya Abdul-Mateen II – said all of the characters are ‘trapped in strange, repeating loops’ that they ‘cannot see.’

‘But this is the moment for you to show us what’s real,’ Morpheus said.

‘They taught you good, made you believe their world was all you deserved and some part of you knew that was a lie. Some part of you remembered what was real.’

Lana Wachowski’s reimagined four-quel – hitting US/UK theaters and HBO Max on December 22 – mysteriously resurrects the deceased hacker couple-turned-freedom fighters Trinity (Carrie-Ann Moss) and Thomas Anderson/Neo (Keanu Reeves).

Neo says it his ‘turn to believe in’ Trinity, who gushes that she’s been waiting her whole life for him, while Trinity says: ‘I saw this in a dream. My dream ended here.’ during what appears to be the climax on a rooftop.

Absent from the new trailer were Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Neo’s psychiatrist inside the Matrix, and Christina Ricci whose character has yet to be revealed.
