The Project: Waleed Aly takes a dig at Carrie Bickmore and Lisa Wilkinson’s huge salaries

The Project’s Waleed Aly appears to take a dig at former co-hosts Carrie Bickmore and Lisa Wilkinson’s huge salaries following debate on gender pay gap

The Project’s Waleed Aly appeared to take a snide dig at the huge salaries of his former co-stars Lisa Wilkinson and Carrie Bickmore on Thursday.

Waleed, 44, was discussing the gender pay gap when comedian Sam Taunton jumped in and suggested the panel – which included Sarah Harris and Kate Langbroek – should reveal their salaries on air who was earning more.

‘I really wish we’d done this last year,’ Aly joked.

‘Oh, I see what you’re getting at there,’ Sam responded while co-host Sarah Harris burst into laughter.

Aly’s quip potentially refers to the salaries of The Project hosts being made public last March – with both Lisa and Carrie taking home significantly more than Aly.

The Australian reported Aly was earning $900,000 a year to host The Project – while Bickmore took home a reported $1.5million, while Wilkinson raked in $1.7million

However, both women subsequently resigned from the show late last year.

Elsewhere in the episode, Langbroek made the bombshell admission she earned forty per cent less than her radio co-host Dave Hughes – despite doing the same work he did.

The TV presenter, 57, admitted she was shocked to discover Hughes was being paid a higher salary.

‘It turned out he was getting paid 40 per cent more than I was. This was the Hughesy and Kate Show that we had made together and didn’t exist without us,’ she said.

‘Showbusiness is not a standard situation but we did a radio show together for 18 years. It changed our relationship when we talked about money and I then left.’

Kate co-hosted the popular Hughesy and Kate drive show alongside Dave, 52, from 2001 until January 2019, when she resigned to spend more time with her family.

She added the gender pay gap was a form of financial discrimination that women continued to face in Australia.
