The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge flew up to Aberdeen on a budget flight on Friday, where they joined members of the Royal Family, including the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, for lunch at a lodge near Loch Muick.

The Queen and Prince Philip had lunch at Balmoral with their grandson James Viscount Severn on August 15 as Prince Andrew and Fergie jetted off to Spain.

Her Majesty, who spends every summer at the Scottish castle, was seen also enjoying a horse ride alongside a groom two days earlier, dressed in a trench coat and a headscarf, though the accomplished rider opted against wearing a helmet.

The monarch was joined by Prince Edward, 55, her youngest son, who was pictured riding alongside his daughter Lady Louise Windsor, 15.

Elsewhere Edward’s wife Sophie, Countess of Wessex, 54, was seen taking their son James, Viscount Severn, 11, to try his hand at fly fishing on the River Dee.

Back on August 6, the monarch was accompanied by Officer Commanding Johnny Thompson as she inspected the guard of honour before entering the Scottish residence.

It was reported just weeks before her visit that Balmoral was infested with bats, and that the Queen herself liked to watch her servants try to catch them.
