The Queen revealed she wore braces as a child, during a recent visit to the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospital this week.

The monarch, 93, hinted that it wasn’t a pleasant experience, but reassured a young patient that it was ‘worth it in the end’.

Meeting children as she opened the new premises of the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospital this week, she comforted a 10-year-old boy being fitted for braces.

The royal told the youngster: ‘I had wires, luckily it was a very long time ago.

Referring back to her own experience, the Queen added: ‘I think it’s worth it, in the end’.

Prince Harry was previously pictured wearing braces in 1999, while Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice also wore them as teenagers, and Prince William has been seen wearing a metal retainer behind his bottom teeth. 

The Queen’s revelation came as she arrived in London to open the new dental hospital.

The major new medical facility will house two specialist hospitals under one roof, which will treat conditions relating to the head and neck.

Part of the UCLH (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), the units will treat complex conditions relating to the ears, nose, throat and dental conditions.

The monarch, 93, who has eight great-grandchildren, stopped to speak to the youngsters while touring the Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospital.

Part of the UCLH (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust), the units will treat complex conditions relating to the ears, nose, throat and dental conditions. 

During her visit the Queen met staff and patients at the hospital, and visited children taking part in creative play sessions on the paediatric floor.
