  • He is now free to be part of his band’s nationwide tour, which starts in August 

A Melbourne magistrate had a stern warning for the drummer of one of Australia’s best known rock bands when he faced court on Sunday.

Mark McLeod from The Screaming Jets appeared in Melbourne Magistrates Court on  after he handed himself into Frankston Police on Saturday night. 

Seven warrants were issued for McLeod’s arrest after he failed to appear in Frankston Magistrates Court last November on several charges in relation to unlicensed driving and possession of methylamphetamine.

He was one of nine people identified by the Frankston Standard Leader on Friday as being wanted by Southern Metro Region  Police for not showing up to court.

McLeod was convicted and fined $2300, along with a blasting from the magistrate when he appeared in court on Sunday.

‘It’s about time you started acting like an adult… you’ve been acting like a nine-year-old, not a 42-year-old,’ the magistrate told McLeod.

Outside court, McLeod expressed his relief of remaining a free man and being able to join his band mates on their six month Rock Radio Riot national tour, which kicks off in Sydney in August.

‘I was a bit scared then, but it turned out good,’ he told 9 News.

‘I can’t wait to get on my drum kit and start smashing those skins.’

McLeod has been with the band since 2012. 

Known for their hit Better, The Screaming Jets formed in the New South Wales city of Newcastle in 1989 and released their eighth studio album earlier this month.
