Ladies, grab your Aperol Spritz (from Ikaria Bondi, obviously) and settle in.
If you’re a single girl in Sydney’s east, you’ll know the dating scene can be a minefield. There are no shortage of Peter Pans out there who only want to waste your time – so if you want to bag a decent bloke, you need the right intel.
And that’s where me and my society spies come in.
Now, there’s a little, er, Google spreadsheet doing the rounds where we like to rank the fellas – some single, others on our ‘wishlist’ – who we all love to gossip about. They’re handsome, successful and rich – and some (but not all) are husband material.
Now, I don’t want to say I’ve done God’s work for you, but I have personally vetted a few on this list and can guarantee their quality.
So who are the lucky guys? Forget the Bondi Rescue lifeguards (too obvious), we’re talking about the real MVPs: sexy restaurateurs, silver-fox farmers, the occasional footy commentator and, yes, a pub baron or two.
These are the men turning heads at Icebergs, Coogee Pavilion and every post-workout brunch at Blackwood Pantry. From Paddington to Point Piper, here’s your tiered guide to the top bachelors of the east, ranked by status, allure and just how hard it is to pin them down. (And trust me, I’ve tried with quite a few. Sigh.)
Now, as we all know, Sydney loves its hierarchies, so let’s start at the top…
The A-list: ‘Good luck… he’ll be taken by next weekend’
Bondi Icebergs owner Maurice Terzini doesn’t scream ‘Mr Big’ – but Jana says he oozes charisma and is the ultimate eastern suburbs success story
These men are rare finds. Think hedge fund managers with abs, creative directors who surf at sunrise, and the occasional heir to a generational family estate.
They’re usually spotted at private wine tastings, exclusive yacht parties, or somehow always sitting in the best seat at Totti’s. Here’s some examples…
Maurice Terzini – Bondi’s bald king
Should we have a crush on Maurice Terzini? Technically, no. His outward qualities – short king, bald, and slightly older than our usual swipe-right age range – would get him tossed to the bottom of a dating app pile (oh, how shallow!)
But would I let that man do unimaginable things to me? Oh yes, absolutely.
You see, he isn’t just a name – he’s a lifestyle. As the man behind Icebergs Dining Room and Bar, Maurice has built more than a restaurant; he’s built a vibe. He’s got that sexy charisma that has you looking up from your beef tartare just to watch him work his magic in the restaurant. Flitting from table, to table, making sure everyone is well looked after. All the while oozing with that effortless charm we can’t resist. Seriously, no man should look that good in a linen smock, and yet he does, dear reader, and yet he does…
Word on the street is he’s single (for now), sophisticated, and knows his way around a wine list. Is there anything sexier than a man who can pair oysters with the perfect champagne? (No. The answer is no.)
Dr Chris Brown – Australia’s favourite bachelor

Jana has shared a pash with Dr Chris Brown and reckons he’s the ultimate Sydney bachelor
As someone who has shared a pash (or two) with this ridiculously tall man (yes, I give myself a mental high five every time I think back to that magical night), I can confidently vouch for the ‘weak at the knees’ effect this man delivers. Thankfully, he’s a bit of a nerd, so he’s not too good to be true. Think: dork-in-a-hot-dude’s body.
But honestly, this ranking shouldn’t come as a surprise. Dr Chris Brown isn’t just Bondi’s favourite vet; he’s Australia’s ultimate heart-throb. With his infectious smile, love for animals and laid-back charm, Chris has been setting women’s hearts – and let’s be honest, loins – on fire for years.
Last I heard, he’s still single – saving animals by day and charming the ladies by night. But fair warning: he rarely stays on the market for long, so strike while the iron’s hot, ladies!
Tom Derickx – The triple threat
This modern-day Tom Selleck is stupidly good looking. Like, almost offensively so.

Tom Derickx has it all, writes Jana. And his refreshing take on positive masculinity is a bonus
Plus, he isn’t your average eligible bachelor: this AFL player-turned-musician, model, and creative powerhouse is the ultimate triple threat. Firstly, he’s in a band (we love that. Secondly, he’s an RUOK? Day ambassador and is open about his struggles with depression and toxic masculinity (we love an emotionally mature man). Thirdly, he’s 6’5 (need I say more?).
If you’re looking for a man who’s equal parts down-to-earth and intriguing, Tom Derickx is your guy.
The mid-tier maybes: ‘Cute, but he’s got a waitlist’
These guys have the looks and the charm but are constantly ‘figuring things out’ (read: too busy with work or their triathlon training schedule). They’re hot property but notoriously hard to lock down. You’ll find them at North Bondi Fish woofing down oysters, or flexing their tech start-up pitch at Catalina’s.
Julian Tobias – Sydney’s nightlife king

Julian Tobias commands attention wherever he goes, but he’s notoriously hard to pin down
He may be looking a little well-worn these days after years of partying, but nobody puts Julian Tobias in the corner. Anyone who’s seen him swing by Icebergs during the lunchtime rush will notice he doesn’t just stroll into a room; he owns it. Like that hot athlete from high school, he’s aware of his popularity.
With his undeniable presence in Sydney’s nightlife scene, he’s the man everyone is talking about (and, rumour has it, a few well-known influencers have been spotted sobbing over). Those cheeky blue eyes don’t hurt, either.
This nightclub mogul is always at the centre of the action, rubbing elbows with Sydney’s finest – that is, when he’s not posting snaps from private jets across the globe. Hard to catch? Absolutely. But if you’ve ever seen the man in action, you’ll know Julian is the kind of guy who makes a night unforgettable.
Single? Who knows… but he’s definitely on most IMG models’ bucket lists.
Braith Anasta – Footy’s big charmer
I’ve had two friends go on dates with the oh-so-sexy Braith Anasta, and from all accounts, he knows exactly how to woo a woman!

Braith Anasta brings a lot to the table, but Jana hears the footy commentator and single dad sometimes cools off after the second date…
He’s the kind of guy who brings a lot to the table – former NRL star, sports commentator, and effortlessly cool single dad. With his fit bod and sharp looks, Braith has cemented himself as one of Sydney’s most eligible bachelors.
That said, he does have a slight habit of falling off the radar after one or two dates. But honestly, with looks like that, who can blame him for sharing the love around? (Me next, Braith!)
When he’s not on TV dissecting footy plays, you’ll find him keeping fit along Coogee’s walking track or grabbing a bite at one of the eastern suburbs’ favourite hotspots with his ‘lad, lad, lads’ crew (side note: can we add his best mate Reni Maitua to this list too?) Down-to-earth yet effortlessly charming, Braith has that rare mix of confidence and warmth that makes him completely irresistible.
And seriously, what is it about a dad-of-daughters that makes us all swoon? Keep those sexy post-workout Instagram pics coming, Braith – we’re all here for it!
Jordan Thompson – Game, set and love match?

When he eventually gives up the pro circuit, I could easily see Jordan Thompson coaching the rich MILFs of Bondi while enjoying some perks on the side
Now I’ll be honest, I only really know him as ‘Brittany Hockley’s ex’ – but seeing as we are mid-swing in the Australian Open right now, it’s only fair that I take an interest in the hotties currently gracing Melbourne Park.
And wouldn’t you know it… Jordan Thompson just happens to hail from the east. Look, I’ve never seen him propping up the bar at the Royal or ordering scrambled eggs at Bills, so on that basis, he only makes the middle tier.
But when he eventually gives up the pro circuit, I could easily see him coaching the rich MILFs of Bondi while enjoying some perks on the side…
The hidden gems: ‘Don’t rule them out’
These are the dark horses of the dating world. You won’t see them flaunting it on socials, but they’re quietly killing it in their careers and are low-key catches. You’ll find them at smaller, understated spots like the Rose Bay Marina or sipping a martini at Ikaria.

Paul Dias is the founder of influencer hotspot Slowhouse. Jana has met him in person and insists he’s the ultimate gentleman
Paul Dias – Bondi’s wellness king
I can personally vouch for this man, having had a lovely interaction with him at the newly opened Pelicano in Kings Cross, where he kept an eye on me and even escorted me to a taxi when he noticed a guy was being a bit of a creep. We love a protective king!
Paul Dias is the founder of influencer hotspot Slowhouse, bringing Bondi its chicest wellness vibes. From infrared saunas to ice baths, Paul has turned self-care into an art form – and himself into one of the suburb’s most eligible bachelors.
Effortlessly cool and health-conscious, he’s the perfect mix of ‘healthy but still knows how to have fun.’ If balance is your thing, Paul might just be your dream guy.
Richard Lavender – Sam’s loss is our gain
Okay, technically he’s a Southern Highlands man, but following a recent (rather public) break-up with a certain TV personality, I think we’ll be finding this man doing the rounds at a posh Rose Bay party or two.
Oh, and I hear he’s certainly no stranger to Royal Randwick.
As the former Mr Samantha Armytage, Richard Lavender was known for being the quiet, laid-back country-dwelling husband. Now the cashed-up farmer is single again, the 40-somethings of Sydney’s east are racing to play stepmum to his two daughters.

He may be a Southern Highlands man, but after his split from Sam Armytage (right), old-school gent Richard Lavender (left) could easily have his pick of the single mums of Sydney’s east
Friends who have spent time with him say he is the epitome of old-school charm: a successful businessman and yet the type of man who doesn’t need to flaunt his success. You won’t see him waving a black Amex around for everyone to see – ick! No, he’s the archetypal understated gentleman.
If you’re after a man who’s charming, successful and a little mysterious, Richard might just be your perfect match. But act fast – men like him don’t stay single for long!
‘Don’t Go There’ tier: Sorry, girls, there’s too much competition
These guys are technically single, but let’s be honest – you’re competing with half of Sydney. They’re Instagram influencers, former reality TV contestants, or professional athletes who are simply too in-demand to date and cause a stir whenever they’re in a room.
Stu Laundy – The pub prince

Stu Laundy is the definition of a ‘man about town’ – and Jana knows him very well… (Stu is pictured here with a friend at his 50th birthday party in November 2022)
Ah, Stu Laundy – the man who somehow manages to be Sydney’s most charming bachelor and its most notorious Peter Pan. As the heir to one of Australia’s most iconic pub empires, Stu has the kind of life (and bank balance) most men dream of, and most women can’t resist.
Now, full disclosure: I’ve dated Stu once or twice in the past (okay, maybe thrice), so I can confidently say he has this uncanny ability to make you stay friends with him – even if you’re consistently baffled by his ‘never-grow-up’ energy.
He’s the kind of guy who can make you laugh until your sides hurt, then casually mention he’s off to his next yacht party for a couple of days, and don’t expect to hear from him.
Stu’s sly grin could melt the ice in your martini, and his charisma is unmatched. He has spent years perfecting the art of winning people over, something he should probably teach to Sydney’s oh-so-boring ‘you up?’ brigade. He’ll book you an Uber Premium for a date, win your friends over effortlessly with his naughty humour, and then disappear just enough to leave you wanting more.
But be warned: you’ll never have him all to yourself, so enjoy the ride while it lasts. If you’re after a whirlwind of laughs, good vibes, and maybe a little heartbreak, Sydney’s Peter Pan is your man. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you!
Matt Suleau – The newsman who can’t be tamed
Now, I adore Matt, so I say this with love…
Ladies, if you want a good time – here is your man. If you want a long time… you’re better off looking elsewhere. Sky News and Fox Sports journo Matt Suleau is mighty talented on and off the screen, but if there was a Gold Logie for enjoying the single life, he would win it every year.

News moves fast, and so does Sky News and Fox Sports journo Matt Suleau
No one is holding their breath for this Blue Steel aficionado to ask a woman to make it official. I have personally witnessed him step out with the hottest of hot, hot women, and yet this walking, talking Ken doll remains single. Why? Because he’s made to live that glorious bachelor life – not push a stroller around Bondi Markets on a Sunday morning.
And is that a crime? Hardly. So I say, run free, Mr Suleau, run free!
Ones to watch (or ‘I think they’ll be back on the market soon’)
Hugh Jackman
Okay, so technically Hugh Jackman has been snatched up by a gloriously age-appropriate woman, but given how fresh his divorce is, we’re placing him in this section – because perhaps he’s still in his rebound era? (Hey, a girl can dream!)
After 27 years of marriage, Hugh has really only just re-entered the dating world, and with a house in Bondi, he’s quite the catch – from a real estate point of view, at least. Oh, and he can tap dance, and that kind of rhythm has to translate to fireworks in the bedroom, right? Let’s be real: a charming, down-to-earth Hollywood star with abs and a love of the beach? Ladies, this man could have a field day!

Okay, so technically Hugh Jackman is taken (he went public with Sutton Foster last week) but Jana hopes he just on the rebound and will eventually find a mate on the shores of Bondi Beach
Michael Clarke
Oh, Pup.
We all want Michael Clarke to have his happy ending, but he always seems to find his way back to bachelorhood. After his on-again, off-again drama with Pip Edwards, it’s clear he’s not one to settle down quietly.
I have quiet hopes for his current lady-of-the-moment because, from what I’ve seen of her, from across the room at a party, she is top notch! So let’s keep our fingers crossed.

We all want Michael Clarke (right) to have a happy ending, but if things don’t end well with new girlfriend Arabella (left), then he’ll soon make his way back to the top of the dating food chain
But, should he find himself in another cheeky scandal, we all know a fling with Clarkey means you’ll be papped by the Daily Mail every other week. And for some ladies, that’s publicity money can’t buy.
Dan Single
This eastern suburbs icon has been keeping things quiet lately, but anyone who knows Dan Single knows he’s never far from the headlines. If his next chapter involves rejoining Sydney’s dating pool, expect the city’s social scene to go wild.
He’s oddly sexy. I think it’s the way he works those DJ decks.

Dan Single, pictured with his ex and former muse Pip Edwards in 2008, is an icon of the east
John Winning Jr
This adrenaline junkie ‘fridge heir’ gets a mention here simply due to the fact he is now single after his break-up with everybody’s favourite nude artist Dina Broadhurst.
But I warn you… Dina is a popular lady and you risk being glared at from all sides at Totti’s should you step out with the man they call ‘Herman’.
But if pitchforks are your thing, go ahead!
