The stars arrive for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards

December always marks one of the most prestige events in the world of sport – the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards.

This year’s eagerly awaited ceremony, held on Wednesday night at MediaCityUK, Salford, saw Lioness Beth Mead grace the red carpet, who goes into the ceremony as the favourite to take the top prize.

She was joined by snowboarder Amy Fuller, diver Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, former swimmer Rebecca Adlington and retired track and field athlete Jessica Ennis-Hill in leading the sporting stars .

Beth looked incredible in a silk green blazer and a matching pair of trousers, while she wore a black bandeau underneath that showed off her toned stomach.

Her blonde tresses were neatly waves and she sported a minimal palette of makeup that let her natural beauty shine through.

She added a pair of white trainers for a casual touch and posed alongside  her girlfriend and fellow footballer Vivianne Miedema.

Dutch player Vivianne, 26, matched in a cream suit and completed the look with a black leather Burberry bag – costing a cool £1,500.

Both woman ruptured their anterior cruciate ligament in the last month with Beth joking to MailOnline about her crutches ahead of Wednesday’s event: ‘We’ll look like a right pair.’

Amy elevated her height with a pair of thigh-high suede boots and styled her bright blonde hair in voluminous curls. 

To complete her look, she added a sweep of shimmering bronze eyeshadow and a bold pink lipstick. 

She was joined on the red carpet by Paddy Pimblett and his girlfriend Laura Gregory.

She carried a sparkly black handbag and added a few extra inches to her height in a pair of black strappy high heels.

Who is nominated for Sports Personality of the Year 2022? 

Six contenders are up for the 2022 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The nominees are:

  • Gymnast Jessica Gadirova
  • Footballer Beth Mead
  • Curling’s Eve Muirhead
  • Cricketer Ben Stokes
  • Snooker player Ronnie O’Sullivan
  • Athlete Jake Wightman

Voting will open during the show on BBC One on December 21.

Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott will present the 69th annual awards.

The event comes after Andrea was named in the shortlist for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year after a stellar 2022.

Andrea, the 2020 winner of the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, won seven diving medals across the Worlds, European Championships and the Commonwealth Games in 2022. 

Lioness Beth is the heavy favourite to win this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year award after helping guide the Lionesses to their first major trophy at Euro 2022.

The Arsenal player won the Golden Boot for leading scorer and was named player of the tournament during England’s historic triumph in the summer.

Beth is joined on the shortlist by England cricket captain Ben Stokes, snooker star Ronnie O’Sullivan, gymnast Jessica Gadirova, curler Eve Muirhead and runner Jake Wightman.

The awards ceremony will celebrate the last 12 months of sport, with the main award being judged by public vote. 

Young Sports Personality of the Year, Team and Coach of the Year, Unsung Hero and the Helen Rollason Award, will also be up for grabs.  

The 69th annual event will be presented by Gary Lineker, Clare Balding, Gabby Logan and Alex Scott.
