The VERY subtle difference between two virtually identical Aldi spreads which has left customers furious
- Beautifully Butterfully 1kg buttery spread and 500g dairy blend look similar
- One customer said their quality was different and the labels should be clearer
- Other customers shared in his frustration with one stating it is ‘false advertising’
A furious row has broken out over the quality of two very similar looking spreads at Aldi.
The 1kg Beautifully Butterfully ‘buttery spread’ looks remarkably similar to a 500g ‘dairy blend’.
But customers say the dairy blend is much better quality and tastes better, while the spread is ‘cheap and nasty’.
One man posted an image of the two spreads side by side on the Aldi Fans Australia Facebook page and sparked a huge debate.
A man posted a side-by-side picture of the Beautifully Butterfully 1kg buttery spread and a 500g dairy blend on an Aldi Fans Australia Facebook group
‘Just a head’s up people, these are not the same product,’ the man wrote on Facebook.
‘The 1kg catering tub on the left is cheap, s***ty, nasty margarine, the 500g on the right is a Beautifully Butterfully tasty dairy blend.’
The 1kg buttery spread is advertised as ‘softer’ and has a higher concentration of oil.
The 500g dairy blend has a lower concentration of oil which changes the taste and makes it thicker.
Hundreds of customers replied to the man’s post, sharing in his frustration.
One customer said: ‘Thanks for the heads up. Easy to overlook the difference.’
‘I bought it ages ago and yes it tastes awful. Straight to the bin it went,’ another said.
Another wrote: ‘I got caught too was so p***ed. Now I have to find a use for that disgusting stuff.’
Though the two products have near-identical labelling, he claimed the quality and taste were completely different and it should be made clearer to customers
But some commenters said they didn’t have any issues with the products and urged customers to properly read the labels before spending their money.
One commenter said: ‘Always pays to read the label if even briefly. Buttery spread and dairy blend are two different things.’
‘I use the one on the left for cooking. I haven’t had a problem with it,’ another said.
Another customer said: ‘The one on the left is much better. It tastes better, cooks better and is cheaper. The one on the right is s***, no taste, s***to cook with and is more expensive.’
‘I disagree. It is very nice and I have tried both. It’s great for Vegemite on toast and I use it in my cakes,’ another said.
