The time capsule mansion frozen in the 1970s

A home in Sturgis, Michigan may look like your standard residence for modest living, but behind its unassuming doors lies a trip back in time, veiled in luxury.

Priced at $375,000 (approximately £267,895) the nearly-6,500-foot home is a throwback to a 1970s shindig with interiors decorated in shag purple carpet and velvet staircase.

The home, currently on the market by Cressy and Everett Real Estate, comes with four bedrooms, two full bathrooms and two half bathrooms. An indoor swimming pool is also accompanied by a slide, sauna, hot tub, bar and 1.8 acres of outdoor space.

Listing agent Dennis Bamber said the home was perfect for either a large family or someone who is looking to entertain.

He said: ‘It’s an 800-pound gorilla in a small neighbourhood,’ insisting that a property of a similar size could ask around $1.5m (approximately £1.1m) in the Sturgis area.

He added: ‘The [family] pictures I’ve seen from the previous owners, looks like the kids had a ball here growing up here.

‘The type of buyer could be someone with kids, it could be someone who’s social and wants to entertain a lot, it has to be a buyer that has imagination.’

The biggest selling points, Dennis said, are the home’s size, location and the fact that it is in a modest neighbourhood.

Sturgis is a city in southern Michigan that hugs the border with the state of Indiana. It’s the largest city in St Joseph County, which has a population of about 61,018, according to a 2015 Census.

Kalamazoo News reports that the party property is located in the eastern part of Sturgis and was built in the late 70s by Ralph Levin, founder of a scrap metal company, Sturgis Iron and Metal.

Mr Levin lived in the home with his wife Renee, who passed away in 2016 two years after her husband.

According to Mr Bamber, the site has been vacant for the last two years.

He said: ‘It’s a house that was built to live life to the fullest.’
